Therapy for Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are serious but recoverable. The therapists listed here have specific training in working with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, ARFID and disordered eating.

Eating disorder treatment in the UK usually involves a team that may include your GP, a dietitian and a specialist therapist. NICE recommends specific therapies for different presentations: CBT-E for adults with most eating disorders, MANTRA for adult anorexia, and family-based treatment for young people.

If your eating is severely affecting your physical health, the first step should be your GP or your local NHS eating disorders service. Private therapy works best alongside, not instead of, that medical care.

Many people also live with disordered eating that does not meet diagnostic criteria but still affects their daily life. Therapy can help here too, often by exploring the underlying emotional patterns.
