Does online therapy actually work?

Yes. The research on this is now strong. Reviews published since 2020 show that online video therapy is broadly as effective as in-person therapy for the most common reasons people seek help, including anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma and relationship issues.

For some people online is actually preferable. There is no commute, you can attend from a space where you feel comfortable, and it removes a real barrier for people with caring responsibilities, disabilities or social anxiety.

What you need

  • A reliable internet connection. Anything from 2 Mbps upload and download is plenty.
  • A device with a camera and microphone. Most laptops, tablets and phones are fine.
  • A quiet, private space where you will not be overheard or interrupted.
  • A modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox).

That is it. You log in to your account at the time of your session and the video call opens automatically.

How it compares to other platforms

Some better-known online therapy services (BetterHelp, Talkspace, Cerebral) take 60 to 75 percent of every fee you pay, with the therapist seeing only a small share. They also tend to push subscription models that pressure therapists into seeing too many clients.

Therapy Connect takes a flat 10 percent platform fee. Therapists set their own prices and you can see the full fee before you book. Sessions are a proper 50 minutes with a human you can come back to, not a chat queue.

What if I want to switch to in-person later?

You can. Many therapists on the platform offer both. If yours does not but you decide you want to meet in person, they will help you find someone local. There is no penalty for changing, and you keep all of your messages and session history.
